Cosmetic Treatment Guide

If you’re like most people who are interested in cosmetic injection treatments, you probably have some honest questions and concerns that you need to know before you decide if it’s right for you.

We’ve compiled a Cosmetic Treatment Guide below answering the eight most commonly asked questions and concerns that our patients have had!

1.    Is a cosmetic treatment painful?

Depending on your practitioner, many treatments include anaesthetic which numb the area after the first few injections. It is also standard to use numbing cream and very fine needles to minimise discomfort.

Of course no injection is painless, but with correct technique they should be more ‘uncomfortable’ than ‘painless’!

2.    Is it safe?

No question, safety should be the first priority for your treatment.

There are various methods and techniques of cosmetic treatment – some of which use harsh and toxic chemicals that might cause infections, muscle weakness and respiratory conditions…

But those AREN’T your only option! So the answer to this question is "It depends on your practitioner, and what sort of treatment they use".

At Beneath The Skin we use natural compounds to achieve the same look – for example our dermal filler is derived from a sugar that naturally occurs in the matrix of skin, which gives volume.

Our anti-wrinkle injection uses a naturally purified protein found in collagen. There are chemical and toxin-free options available to you!

3.    What precautions are in place to protect me?

It's normal to conduct a Skype call with a registered doctor who will approve any treatment before your session begins in order to identify any potentially conflicting conditions or circumstances.

At Beneath The Skin we follow industry standards with a consulting physician overseeing our treatments and patient care. If you find some who doesn’t offer this safety measure, we suggest caution!

4.    Am I going to look ‘frozen’?

Of course not! Every treatment is tailored to the patient’s skin, complexion and facial structure - and, of course, your goals and what you're looking for.

Your practitioner will speak with you the areas you'd like treated, the options available to you, what you're expecting to see after your treatment, and any other concerns that you may have such as your budget.

The aim is to give you a natural, more youthful and fresher look – not to make it immediately obvious that you’ve had treatment.

5.    Will I look unusual or have to hide my face for a few days after my treatment?

For a Dermal Filler or Lip Filler you might notice a small amount of initial swelling – however this is easily managed with ice and generally subsides within a few days.

For an Anti-Wrinkle Treatment, however, you usually won’t notice any change for the first 2-3 days, with optimal results appearing after 7-10 days.

6.    Will my treatment last forever?

No – your metabolism and facial structure has an impact on how long you’ll see results for, but as a general rule…

Lip Fillers retain their plumping properties for 3-6 months, Dermal Fillers last 5-24 months depending on the site of treatment, and an Anti-Wrinkle treatment lasts 3-6 months.

7.    What happens if I’m not fully happy with the results I get?

Practitioners with the highest level of care know that if you aren’t pleased with the finished result, you should never have to pay for a follow-up consult to have your initial treatment refined or adjusted to suit your needs.

Dermal and Lip Fillers, however, are completely reversible if you feel like you’ve done ‘too much’.

8.    What are the most common areas to treat?

Our most common treatments for Anti-Wrinkle are frown line between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet around the eyes.

Dermal Fillers can be used almost anywhere to enhance volume loss and fill lines – this can include your cheeks, lips and folds around your nose.
